Frostburg State University invites applications for the position of Dean of the College of Education to advance the mission and success of the College and to partner with a committed senior leadership team. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience; University System of Maryland benefits package included.

A member institution of the University System of Maryland, Frostburg State University (FSU) is a public, comprehensive, largely residential regional university offering programs in education, business, the sciences, arts, and humanities at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. FSU’s College of Education is NCATE accredited for quality in teacher preparation and includes approximately 50 faculty and 750 students in the Department of Educational Professions and the Department of Kinesiology and Recreation. The College of Education offers a distinctive and distinguished baccalaureate education along with a select set of applied master’s programs and a doctorate in educational leadership. FSU is located on a 260-acre campus in the Appalachian Highlands of Western Maryland.

Description of Ongoing/New Duties

Reporting to the Provost, serve as the Chief Academic and Administrative Officer for the College of Education. The Dean provides oversight of and strategic leadership for the quality of undergraduate and graduate programs, student enrollment and retention, effective use of technology, curricular and programmatic innovation, professional development of the faculty, and advancement work. Working with University administration and the two departments in the College, the Dean discusses issues and makes decisions regarding faculty and staff, students, academic programs, and Maryland State Department of Education approval of teacher preparation programs. Engagement with the local and state educational community, especially P-12 schools and districts, is a key responsibility. Other related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications

Earned doctorate from a regionally accredited university in a related field with four to six years of increasingly responsible work experience in higher education leadership. Excellent speaking, writing, and interpersonal communication skills with demonstrated ability to interact effectively with a diverse population. Evidence of teaching excellence at the university level.

Preferred Qualifications

Through education and work experience, deep knowledge of salient and emergent academic teacher preparation and professional disciplines and practices. A successful candidate will be innovative and forward-looking with strong interests in collaboration across the University and the University System of Maryland and a dedication to student recruitment, retention, success, and graduation. The individual will have current insight into teaching trends as determined by a variety of data sources, and will be knowledgeable about NCATE/CAEP, regional accrediting processes, and other salient professional accreditation organizations as required.
