Short Description

Frostburg State University, Residence Life Office, seeks a dynamic educator to serve as Director of Residence Life, someone who is attentive to the changing landscape of higher education, and is committed to creating residential communities that promote the academic success and overall well-being of our students. This full-time, exempt position provides leadership for on-campus student housing facilities at FSU, including 2,000 beds in 11 residence halls, as well as a new 400-bed hall scheduled to open Fall 2020. Salary commensurate with experience and includes University System of Maryland benefits package. Frostburg State University is a rural campus located in western Maryland in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains with an incredibly diverse student population.

Description of Ongoing/New Duties

Reporting to the Vice President of Student Affairs, the Director of Residence Life is responsible for leading, directing, and managing on-campus student housing and serves as liaison with residence life counterparts at a private-public partnership apartment complex on campus. We seek a highly motivated individual with strong leadership skills, a professional demeanor, and proven ability to manage facilities, services, and hall programming to meet the needs of residential students. Specific duties include the direct operation of facilities, including selection and development of staff, managing the residential program budget, policy and procedure development, and procurement and vendor contracts. Additionally, the Director will collaborate with University stakeholders in supporting strategic goals, promoting student safety and development, and conducting assessment and evaluation of programs. The Director also will be responsible for implementation of on-call coverage and crisis management plans, as well as ensuring the housekeeping, maintenance, and security needs of facilities. Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, college student personnel, business management, or related field. Five or more years of progressive experience in college/university housing administration, including at least four years supervising full-time professional staff and managing budgets. The successful candidate will demonstrate experience with building collaborative institutional relationships, administering student conduct proceedings, a commitment to professional development, exceptional communication skills, and a commitment to inclusion.

Any combination of training and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in a related field and progressively responsible related work experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in meaningful assessment processes. Demonstrated service on institutional committees. Direct experience with overseeing new construction. Commitment to wellness programming.
